August 2023 Placemaking update

Celebrate Book Week at Tallawong

Blacktown City Council is continuing to share the joy of reading as it brings its Mobile Library to local train stations and community spaces, with visits to Tallawong scheduled every Friday.

What’s more, with this year’s Book Week running from August 19 to 25, featuring the theme “Read, Grow, Inspire”, there’s never been a better time to celebrate books, tell stories and shine a light on the importance of reading.

So make sure you pop down to the Deicorp Sales Centre at 2 Conferta Avenue, Tallawong, between 11am and 1pm each Friday, to browse and borrow a great range of books. There’s even an interactive, early literacy program called Baby Rhyme Time from 11:15-11:45am, for kids from birth to 2 years of age.

New shareway for Showground residents

.

The team at The Hills Shire Council announced some exciting news for people living in the vicinity of the Hills Showground Metro Station recently, with the opening of a new shared walking and biking pathway.

The link connects Showground Road to Carrington Road in Castle Hill, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to easily access local facilities, parks, and the Metro Station.

The pathway creates a picturesque loop through the Showground precinct, which is home to a dog park, horse stalls, a theatre, a sporting oval and various buildings for hire.

Approximately 200 trees and various native shrubs were also planted along the new pathway, providing additional shade and tree cover for the local community.

Northwest Faces: Meet Aurelia Rahman

We recently spoke to Aurelia Rahman from the Community Migrant Resource Centre (CMRC), for the latest in our series of Northwest Faces profiles.

Aurelia helps people already in the community to increase their awareness of the different cultures of newly arrived migrants and refugees, so they know who their new neighbours are and understand their stories.

A resident of Baulkham Hills since the early 2000s, Aurelia loves The Hills for its green spaces, describing it as “a very safe place to live, with good neighbours who keep an eye out for each other”.

Landcom’s Sydney Metro Northwest Places team is also working with Aurelia and the CMRC on upcoming community activities at Bella Vista Pocket Park, so make sure you keep checking our What’s On page for all the details.
