Bringing students' stories to life through art

As part of our Creative Connections program, the Story Factory - a not-for-profit creative writing centre for young people - worked with the talented students of Crestwood High and Glenwood High to create meaningful stories that respond to the transformations occurring around them, focusing on Northwest Sydney. 

Students developed a variety of short texts to help them express how their view of the world is changing, and these have now been brought to life by artist Dave Coleman (@dvclmn), an illustrator and animator who grew up in Northwest Sydney. Titled “It’s Transformation”, the series showcases extracts from the students’ collection of creative writing pieces that have been creatively translated into a graphic art format.  

These colourful artworks have now been installed on the hoarding surrounding the Kellyville and Bella Vista Metro station precincts, so make sure you take the time to stop by and admire the students’ thoughtful and creative words. 

Unleash your inner artist with Muralisto

Over the next few months, public art enterprise Muralisto will be collaborating with the Northwest Sydney community to design a new mural for Bella Vista Pocket Park, which will be installed on the hoarding surrounding the park later this year.

To celebrate this public art initiative, we’re inviting locals to our mural community days on Saturday 21 and Saturday 28 October – simply drop in for a session between 11am and 3pm on either day. 

Bring along a t-shirt or tote bag and join the Muralisto team for one of our free, interactive screen-printing sessions, where you can create your own design, inspired by elements from the mural and the surroundings of Bella Vista.

Free school holiday activities at Bella Vista Pocket Park 

If you’re a Northwest Sydney parent looking for some fun, free activities to occupy the kids this coming school holidays, make sure to book in for our school holiday sessions at Bella Vista Pocket Park. 

There’s the playful joy of Stage Door’s dance classes for ages 3-8, while for ages 6-12, there’s Totem Skate Collective's Learn To Skate workshops. Check out our full schedule below:
