Harmony Day in The Hills

We invite you to head down to Bella Vista Pocket Park, located next to Bella Vista Metro Station, on Friday 22 March from 4pm to 7pm, for the very special ‘Harmony Day in The Hills’ event. 

Featuring exciting cultural performances, including Irish singing, Scottish pipe bands and other multicultural musical talents, as well as food trucks and craft activities, this free event celebrates Harmony Week, which recognises the wonderful multiculturalism and diversity to be found across our communities. 

The Hills Shire Council has partnered with the Community Migrant Resource Centre and Landcom for this inclusive event that unites and celebrates the diverse cultures found in The Hills – and be sure to wear something orange in keeping with the theme of Harmony Week! 

A brand-new Powerhouse Castle Hill

On the weekend of 23 and 24 March, northwest Sydney will celebrate the official opening of Powerhouse Castle Hill. 

The event will welcome a new state-of-the-art building dedicated to the storage and preservation of the museum’s extensive collection - containing more than half a million objects - which includes a public viewing space capable of housing planes, trains and automobiles, plus additional spaces for workshops, events, laboratories, photography and research work. 

The opening weekend will feature the premiere of First Nations exhibition Alchemy, artist talks, architectural tours and masterclasses alongside programs presented by TAFE NSW. If you’re thinking of attending this very special cultural event, the nearest metro station is Hills Showground, where bus services will connect you to Powerhouse Castle Hill.

Northwest Faces: Michelle Comito

This month’s Northwest Face is Michelle Comito, Executive Officer at Saints Care, a not-for-profit community organisation that provides the Youth Rezolutions support service to youth in The Hills and across Western Sydney. 

“We work with young people who are at risk of or experiencing life challenges, such as homelessness and mental health, by providing programs such as case management, financial support, mentoring, skills courses, groupwork programs in schools and refuges, and outreach engagement,” explains Michelle.
